Making the College Admission Process in regards to You

Senior high school me in Any Such Thing Goes

Greetings from sunny Southern California! My name is Jessica Frey (informally referred to as J Frey) and we am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I spent my youth in Hollister, a farm that is tiny in Northern Ca that has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothes store. I attended a large public senior high school with over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to learn theatre. My hope is that through sharing my experiences that are own I can give you some advice and help you feel at ease whenever you approach the school admission process.

Many of you visitors are going to be deciding on college before long, and I want to make sure you know this is likely to be all about you. It may feel a little weird and selfish for anybody whom are always putting other’s needs before your very own. But in order for you to make an informed college list and end up at a destination where you belong and feel happy, you do require to help make the college search procedure all about yourself.

I do not know I was in high school I made a lot of my decisions based on what other people were doing and thinking about you, but when. It’s cool to put on pants that are red? Ok, maybe I will go get that pair I had been eyeing during the mall weekend that is last. All the other children within my class are applying to College XYZ? Maybe I should too. My therapist states I’d be good at engineering since I like my calculus class? We wonder if i will apply to engineering, even though i’ve NO IDEA what as an engineer is about. These were all real thoughts I had because well as many others through that anxious and stressful autumn semester of senior year.

Although it is very easy (and sometimes a good thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process should really be one where you let your very own thoughts and ideas navigate your alternatives. Here shmoop.pro are three fundamental principles I do believe every senior high school student should keep in mind while they decide where they are going to connect with college:

Focus on facts rather than opinions. Lots of people form views about different universities and colleges, but you should really give attention to yours thoughts associated with the schools along with the information you find as you study the colleges that interest you. It is important that you’re enthusiastic about a university because they feature something which you need in your undergraduate experience- not merely because other people you know are fans of the institution, or because of its well-known reputation.

Reflect on what you want in a college experience, and accordingly apply to schools. The time has come for you really to think about what a college campus should have in order for you to definitely be a pleased and thriving student. Would you like to attend college in a large city or even a rural college town? Are you wanting to study abroad in a particular country? What kind of activities do you want to pursue outside the classroom? Do you wish to have the chance working closely with your professors? It has everything you’re looking for, add it to the list if you find a school you’ve never heard of but! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your family or school ever knew about the college ahead of your finding. Maybe it’s a place where you’ll have a college experience that is enjoyable.

Enjoy the search process! The process of fabricating your university list can be a daunting task, but it’s also an experience that is enjoyable. This is the possiblity to learn as much as you can about the many amazing colleges and universities across the country. This is your time to explore the array that is wide of and look closely at the colleges you’re considering.

I don’t compose this website to tell you shouldn’t listen to your moms and dads, counselors, or peers. You could have resources that are wonderful your disposal that provide great advice and understanding. Counselors learn about many different colleges and may be able to inform you more about those that meet your criteria. Your parents is going to be able to help determine which schools will be at your fingertips financially. You just have to produce sure their advice also aligns with that which you want in an university experience.

That said, I did buy and totally rocked the pants that are red. I’ll acknowledge if I could get in that I applied to a college I had no intention of attending just to see. I did get into the school, but during the end of the day that didn’t matter. It don’t make me feel better about myself also it was quite seriously a waste of time and cash. But I did follow my heart and became a theatre major as opposed to an engineer, and I also’m so happy I did. More on that later.
